6 random Indiana facts you probably wanted to know

1. Indiana is called the Hoosier state, and residents are properly called Hoosiers (not Indianians. Please not that).

2. The official state sport is basketball .

3. Indiana is sixteenth in the nation for both population and density.

4. The state's 1816 constitution was the first in the country to institute a state-funded public school system. (It didn't work very well, because at the time the state couldn't provide those funds. A later state constitution worked out better.)

5. The official state song is "On the Banks of the Wabash, Far Away." Waterways flow into the Wabash River in about 2/3 of the state's counties.

6. 2016 is the state's bicentennial year; however, we were not invited to any celebratory festivities while we were there.
