Frequently Asked Questions

  • Why are you visiting churches?  When people are committed to a church, they don't have much of a chance to see what other churches are doing. We've been church goers all our lives and, on occasion, on staff of churches. Now we're at a time in our lives when we have an opportunity to visit churches and to see the variety of ministries. We've been surprised and pleased in our adventures so far to see the wonderful stuff happening in churches and we have enjoyed sharing what we've seen with others.
  • How do you choose what church you'll go to? At times there is planning involved, and sometimes we let the Holy Spirit work through serendipity. In 2015, we had themes; in 2016 we plan to visit a church in each of the fifty U.S. states
  • Will you visit my church? We'd like to! In some states, we've got churches lined up already; in other states we're still working on setting things up. Please, tell us about your church and why we should go there. You can email us at deanandmindygotochurch <at> gmail <dot> com We'd love to hear from you!
  • What do you do when you're not visiting churches? We write about churches. And visit   friends and family. And meet people at bars. Yes, bars. See our other blog, DeanandMindyWalkIntoaBar.blogspot.com. We also blog about the churches and clergy in movies at MovieChurches.com
  • How long will you be doing this? 2015 has been our year for visiting California churches. 2016 is our year for visiting churches in every state. After that we expect to be more than ready to settle down somewhere.
  • Why aren't you visiting temples and other places people worship? We're having a hard enough time fitting all the Christian churches we want to see into our schedule, and we do believe that God does amazing things through the Church. We may well visit other places of worship along the way, but churches are our priority.
  • Can I get posts via email instead of going to the blog or FaceBook? Yes. Look for the subscribe button on the upper right hand corner of our main page.
  • How long do you spend at each church? During our California year, we've only had time to go to worship services, since we have to be at our regular jobs Monday through Friday. In 2016, we hope to always have several days in the church's community so we can spend time with staff and parishioners outside of just Sunday morning.
  • Do churches know you're coming? During 2015, usually not (unless we were also visiting friends). During 2016 they usually will.
  • How can I help? It is a great encouragement to know that people are reading, so please always feel free to comment either at the blog itself, at google+ or on FaceBook. We will also have some financial needs during the year, so if you'd like to help in that way, go to our Patreon page.  But the absolute best thing you could do for us is to pray, asking God to be with us and that we could be an encouragement to others on our journey.
